Our Spring Luncheon was held on the Holiday Inn in Highland Beach. We had a wonderful presentation by Dr. Bernedette Russel, Provost of Palm Beach Community College in Boca Raton. She shared with us what's happening in education at the College and how it impacts our community. We had many of our members come out for this event, where the new board for 2008-2009 was also inducted by Pat Dyer. Faith Campbell gave over her responsibilities as our President to Susan Holzschuh. Most of our other board members stayed the same for the new year, with Faith taking over the job as mentor to the new president and writing the branch's newsletter. The first picture starting on the left is Jacie Keeley, Branch Vice-President of Programming, Dr. Bernadette Russell, Provost of Palm Beach Community College Boca Raton, and new Branch President Susan Holzschuh. The speaker at our February Meeting was Tony Brandt from Hospice by the Sea. She spoke about having a Living Will and other needs as such as a surrogate for health care to make decisions for us when we are unable to do this. what a Living Will really means and where you should have it available etc. All was exceedingly useful information for us to have at any age. She works with our AAUW Branch member Paula Alderson at Hospice by the Sea and certainly gave us a lot to think about and some wonderful handouts. She then answered questions and had some enlightening examples of how Hospice works for everyone's benefit. |

Our first General Meeting of the year was held on Oct 18th at Palm Beach Community College. We started the year off with an excellent speaker, Dr. Ann Ruben, who gave us an interesting presentation on the development of her trademark shirt "Someday a woman will be PRESIDENT!" According to Dr. Ruben, Walmart, who originally agreed to sell the shirts, pulled them from their shelves because the message didn't represent "family values". She also discussed her "Women are Wonderful Foundation. To read more about these topics you can go to her website: http://www.womenarewonderful.com/index.html. Pictured below on the left are Branch Secretary Carole Fielder, Branch President Faith Campbell, and Branch Vice-President of Program Jacie Keeley. In the picture on the right is Branch Financial Officer Dr. Pat Dyer, Branch Member Pat Sheerin, Faith Campbell, and speaker Dr. Ann Ruben in her trademark shirt. |
